Common questions

Why are network names hidden?

Enable WiFiBuddy in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, then run another scan. macOS requires this permission to reveal network names and other Wi-Fi metadata.

See Permissions and privacy for the full explanation.

Why is a network missing?

Check that Wi-Fi is enabled and remove any band filters. Access points can stop broadcasting or briefly disappear, so wait for the next scan before trying again.

Does the app change my router settings?

No. WiFiBuddy observes nearby Wi-Fi conditions. Change channels, channel width, and security settings through your router's administration interface.

What should I include in a bug report?

Describe the steps, what happened, and what you expected. App version, macOS version, and Mac model are helpful but optional. Leave out passwords and private network identifiers.

Reproducible issues can also be reported on GitHub. Public reports are visible to everyone.
