The WiFiBuddy app processes Wi-Fi scans on your device and does not send them to us. Information you choose to submit through our website or email support is handled as described below.

Wi-Fi scan data

WiFiBuddy uses Apple system Wi-Fi APIs to scan nearby wireless networks and display signal, channel, and network details on your device. Scan results are processed locally on your Mac and are not sent to Alkinum or any third party.

The app does not require an account and does not include analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.

Location permission

On macOS, location permission may be requested because the system requires authorization before exposing Wi-Fi metadata such as SSID, BSSID, and country code. WiFiBuddy does not request geographic coordinates and does not create a location history.

You can decline access and continue using signal measurements with limited network metadata. You can change the decision later in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

Local network access

The optional Stability Test sends probes to a router or DNS server selected by the app or entered by you. This measures latency, jitter, and packet loss. Test results remain on your Mac.

Information stored on your Mac

WiFiBuddy stores preferences such as scan interval, appearance, language, selected region, and starred networks locally. Removing the app may not reset macOS permission decisions because those decisions are managed by the operating system.

Support

If you use the support form, we receive your email address, request type, subject, message, and any app or device details you choose to include. Requests are stored in our OnFire support system to answer your request and diagnose the reported issue. No account is required. If you email support, we also receive any attachments you choose to send.

The support page uses Cloudflare Turnstile to prevent automated submissions. Cloudflare processes technical browser and network information for this security check under its privacy policy. We also limit submission attempts by IP address. The form does not automatically collect Wi-Fi scan results or network identifiers.

Public GitHub issues are handled by GitHub and may be visible to other people. Do not include private network identifiers in a public report.
